M2488 1/2-inch cartridge tape drive unit : Storage devices & systems

M2488 tape drive unit is Fujitsu's new tape drive unit which uses IBM 3480/3490-type half-inch cartridge tape media. The M2488 applies ANSI standard 36-track recording format and can read ANSI standard 18-track format tapes. The 20 Mbyte/s interface speed capability of standard SCSI, Fast&Wide, is applied to satisfy customer's system requirement. To realize more reliable, lower-cost, more integrated and higher-performance drive unit, Fujitsu developed new architecture, mechanical and electrical design in this drive. This paper describes these new technologies, the new design resulted, and the M2488 product features.
