Abstract Kantowitz and Knight have argued that Kahneman's attention-allocation theory requires primary and secondary task difficulty to interact. It is shown that whether or not these two variables interact depends upon (1) the shape of the function relating task difficulty and available capacity to performance and (2) the difficulty levels of each task.
