A 7.2 – 7.7 GHz FM-UWB transceiver prototype

A FM-UWB transceiver prototype operating in the 7.2 – 7.7 GHz band based upon 3 full-custom ICs is presented. Receiver sensitivity is −85 dBm for a BER of 10−6 at 62.5 kbps. A range of 15 meters is demonstrated under LOS conditions. Power consumption of a SoC version is estimated at 5 mW for the transmitter and 14 mW for the receiver. Subcarrier FDMA multiple access and robustness to narrowband interference are also demonstrated.
