CMOS Transimpedance Amplifier for Gigabit-per-Second Optical Wireless Communications

A variable-gain current-amplifier-based feedback transimpedance amplifier (CA-TIA) with a gain-insensitive bandwidth is analyzed and designed for gigabit-per-second optical wireless communications. Implemented in 0.18-μm CMOS, as the transimpedance gain varies from 55.8 to 69.3dBΩ, the 3-dB bandwidth of the CA-TIA remains relatively invariable around 1 GHz.
