Examples of Business Models

This chapter presents four cases of interactive modeling and simulation: (1) a library; (2) a mobile phone with a phone book; (3) a service called Formal Accreditation of Prior Learning; (4) a system for preparation of a document by several participants. The cases may be seen as examples of course assignments for those students who follow a course on Interactive Modeling and Simulation. The case of a system for preparation of document by several participants is usually considered as a difficult for modeling in another behavior modeling semantics. In each of cases, both semantics of goal modeling and Protocol Modeling are applied. This combination of semantics allows one to build, simulate and interpret the model in a stepwise manner. All cases illustrate the ability of Protocol Modeling to separate crosscutting and reusable concerns and present patterns for modeling. The patterns implemented as dependent protocol machines form a valuable source of inspiration for modeling of business rules.
