3D Printing of Food

Compared with 3D printing applications in product design, component manufacturing and medical implants, 3D printing of food is a relatively nascent field. With the target of fabricating food pieces with customized color, shape, flavor, texture and even nutrition, a growing number of projects, commercial food printers and printed food products have been launched in the past five years. The objectives of this article are to collate, analyze, categorize, and summarize information pertaining to 3D printing in food applications, and its impact on food processing, as well as to provide a critical insight into the direction of future development.
