Accessible E-learning for Students with Disabilities: From the Design to the Implementation

E-learning systems are now widely adopted. They represent real opportunities for a better quality of education for many people. However, people with disabilities are still encountering many obstacles to benefit from these systems. The main problem, in fact, is that most available e-learning systems are inaccessible to people with disabilities and do not take in consideration their special needs. In this chapter, we present our work toward developing an accessible e-learning system from the design step to the implementation. Our approach is mainly based on the design of accessible e-learning concepts using the model-driven architecture. This approach is validated by the implementation of an accessible e-learning system we called Moodleacc+.
