Stress analysis for panel of infilled frames

Abstract A rigorous method based on stress function in the form of Fourier Series is presented for the stress analysis of the plate of infilled frames under in-plane diagonal loads. The approach to overcome the difficulty due to the present of the boundary frame is outlined. Frozen-stress and three dimensional techniques of photoelasticity experiment were described for the verification of the theoretical results. The distribution of the stresses is found to be non-linear, and the shear stresses are found to be predominant, while the normal stresses to be significant at the panel-frame interface. Based on the complete stress distribution, the importance of establishing full interaction and two possible modes of failure of the panel are concluded.
