Performance Analysis of Hybrid Transformerless PFC boost Converter

Recently, power electronic devices are widely used in various applications; because of this the shape of input current is greatly affected. Generally, the boost PFC converter provides satisfactory operation for current shaping but for some high voltage application it is not appropriate. In this proposed work a hybrid transformer-less PFC boost converter is introduced. This converter will function in DCM i.e. discontinuous conduction mode to shape current waveform at the input and to obtain a high voltage at output without the need of operating at high duty ratio. The converter uses a minimum number of devices which will enhance the power density and minimizes the cost. Furthermore, power switches voltage stress is decreased leading to low power loss in power switches and therefore making the circuit more cost effective. Finally, simulated results confirm the theoretical analysis and the competence of the presented converter.
