The materials for ABWR have been selected based on consideration of intergranular stress corrosion cracking (IGSCC) resistance, cobalt reduction, radiation effects, and BWR performance history. In addition, minimizing in-service inspection has been addressed by elimination of vessel seam welds and use of forged and bent piping sections. This paper reports on a project to produce a reactor system free of materials-related problems affecting performance.
