Online assessment of new product development performance: an approach

Abstract The competitive pressures for good design products in the global markets have been increasing substantially. Companies are competing for new products and enticing potential customers with products of better quality at lower prices. New product development (NPD) is critical for organizational survival, growth and development. Assessing the NPD performance can help companies to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and plan strategically to achieve a competitive edge. An online approach of a self-assessment system is feasible for users to assess the NPD performance in organizations. This paper reviews the determinants of NPD performance, and explains the design and delivery of an online system along with a discussion of the applicability of the approach in NPD performance assessment.
