Control of power system voltage and VARs are important problems which constantly receive and deserve careful study by utility engineers. Two basic approaches have been used to control systems voltage at locations remote from the generating station. One approach is to change the transformer ratio by means of tapchangers, and the other is to supply either leading or lagging VARs as required by the system to obtain the desired voltage.
