SEAKEEPING FOR DESIGN: THE DEMANDS OF MULTIHULLS IN COMPARISON TO MONOHULLS

This paper is concerned with the improved design of catamarans at the conceptual design stage. After summarising the corresponding monohull design approach, developed and reported previously, and providing a brief overview of seakeeping research pertinent to catamarans, a new seakeeping for design procedure developed for catamarans is presented and applied. Identified conflicts arising from the authors endeavour to provide a simple fast design method are discussed and some practical guidance given on how best to use the developed procedures.
