Design of Hand-held Suturing Device Integrated with Optical Coherence Tomography Probe for Corneal Suturing

Corneal suturing procedure requires precise control of insertion depth to accomplish the successful wound closure, but the surgical microscope cannot provide the needle depth information to the surgeon. This paper introduces a design of hand-held suturing device for corneal suturing and plane alignment method using an OCT probe. Experiment on porcine eye shows that the proposed device and the plane alignment method can provide the needle depth information for the corneal suturing.
