Sliding-mode control with mild information demand for relative-degree 3 systems

This paper addresses the problem of stabilizing in finite time a scalar output variable /spl sigma/ having relative degree 3 with respect to the control input. This stabilization task is achieved for the first time by assuming that only the signs of /spl sigma/, /spl sigma/ and /spl sigma/ are available. We refer to the triple integrator system, and by means of simulations we show that the proposed approach is also effective in the presence of bounded matched uncertainties.
