A modified PIFA with a small ground plane

This paper presents a study on a modified planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) with a small ground plane (7mm /spl times/ 12mm) mounted on a printed circuit board (PCB) of a mobile telephone handset (40mm /spl times/ 100mm) operating at 5.2 GHz. Whilst it inherits the attractive features of PIFA, such as compact size and low profile, the modified antenna exhibits low coupling to the PCB.
