Experimental characteristics of a line-start permanent magnet motor

Characteristics of a line-start type permanent magnet motor is presented. It is a surface permanent magnet synchronous motor with squirrel cage windings. It starts and accelerates smoothly as an induction motor and rotates at synchronous speed as a synchronous motor. Experimental efficiency and starting or pull-in characteristics are shown.
