An integrated PMU and protection scheme for power systems

This paper presents an integrated PMU and protection scheme for power systems. The scheme integrates local and wide area control and protection systems by implementing the WAMS function and substation protections into one system to identify the overload caused by flow transfer from isolation of main trunk line. This integrated system mainly consists of three major components: local interface unit for local measurement with IEC 61850 9-2 format, optical communication network interfaces for data exchange compatible with IEEE C37.118 and IEC 61850, PMU integrated protection completes protective functions with flow transfer identification.
