Modification of the elastic-plastic model for the contact of rough surfaces

Abstract An analysis of some drawbacks of the elastic-plastic model for the contact interaction of rough surfaces of metal pieces is reported. Computational and experimental techniques are used to derive a new expression for the plastic load as a function of the interference for an asperity.
