Predictive Direct Power Control of the Doubly Fed Induction Machine with Reduced Power Ripple at Low Constant Switching Frequency

In this paper, a new predictive direct power control (DPC) technique is presented for the doubly fed induction machine (DFIM). Based on a model prediction, the control strategy is able to operate at considerably low constant switching frequencies. In addition, this control technique allows it to perform different power ripple minimization strategies, in order to improve the steady state and transient response behaviors. Consequently, different power ripple minimization methods will be presented. Then, these methods will be analyzed and compared by simulation, concluding that despite the fact that they achieve very similar results, the method that minimizes the power ripples by an approximation, is more suitable to be implemented in a real time application, since it presents very good results and is the less computationally expensive.
