The correction of humidity in dielectric strength lightning impulse testing - comments

The present paper's objective is to discuss the application of a humidity correction factor developed at EFEI High Voltage Laboratory to determine the performance of commercial insulating systems. There are several interesting commercial systems in the medium voltage range. However, it was decided to carry out the lightning impulses tests sequence in an insulating system with floating electrodes. It analyzed the performance of a four conductor compact systems known as a “Spacer System” and of medium voltage rod-rod gaps. For the Spacer System, among the various conductors connections, they discussed basically those which presented floating electrodes. The correction factor procedure was based on standard electrodes (Sphere-Sphere and Rod-Rod). In spite of improving some results, the procedure still claims for extra analyzes before becoming a standard laboratory practice. (5 pages)
