Stiffness optimization of a heavy hybrid machine tool named XNZH2430

The stiffness of a heavy hybrid machine tool named XNZH2430 was analysed using the finite element analysis method. The three-dimensional solid model was built using the CAD software UG NX 2.0 with the finite element analysis clone in ANSYS 8.0.The machine tool stiffnesses were computed for various configurations with the results indicating that the stiffnesses along the y and z direction are better while that along the x direction is worse. The stiffness along the x direction of the machine tool was improved by modifying the component structures. The results can be used to optimize machine tool designs.
