This paper presents dynamic modelling and response of a small 500 W hybrid energy system based on solar PV, wind turbine and fuel cell. This system contains a solar PV module, a 400 W wind turbine and a PEM fuel cell as energy sources. Energy output access from solar PV module and wind turbine is given to electrolyser which converts water in hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen is used as fuel in fuel cell stack. Ultra capacitor bank is used to reduce variations of fuel cell stack output voltage. Power conditioner unit converts DC into AC and makes system suitable for standalone applications. PID controllers control flow rate in fuel cell controller, regulate voltages in boost converter and inverter. The whole system is simulated in Simulink of MATLAB. The systems behaviour is analysed for changing wind velocity, solar irradiation and load demand. The results are analysed and discussed. The presented hybrid system is capable to control voltage fluctuations during transients. It is found suitable for standalone applications.
