A Novel Adaptive Algorithm for Channel Estimation in Wideband CDMA Systems

In order to perform coherent demodulation in fading channel conditions, channel phase and amplitude estimation is necessary. The form and bandwidth of the estimation filter depend on the channel fading statistics and signal-to-interference ratio due to the time-varying characteristic of mobile channel. In this paper, a novel adaptive algorithm is presented for channel estimator by using the measured auto-correlation function of the instantaneous channel estimations. The mean square error (MSE) performance under flat Rayleigh fading channel is evaluated by computer simulation and the result show that the proposed adaptive channel estimator provides good performance over wide Doppler frequency range supported by 3G.
