Transformerless reactive series compensators with voltage source inverters

This paper proposes a configuration for transformerless connected compensators consisting of voltage source inverters with parallel and series connected capacitors. The behavior of transmission lines and power flow control with reactive series compensators are described. After presentation of the circuits and configurations, their mode of operation is shown in more detail using an example which is representative for practical applications.
