Snorkeler damage to reef corals in the Maldive Islands

Rapid and intensive survey methods were used to measure coral breakage by snorkelers on a Maldivian resort reef. On the most impacted section of reef, breakage over a one month period was estimated at 17% of susceptible coral cover and 7% of total coral cover.
