The care of cultural property in transit: a case design for traveling exhibitions

To transport safely a large number of ethnographic objects many quite fragile even after conservation stabilization, a new packing system was developed. Four major criteria were established for the case design: micro-environmental control, high shock and vibration mitigation, simplicity and ease in packing/re-packing, and reusability of the cases. The specially constructed cases allowed the artifacts to be shipped with only very minor damage.
