A novel type of high voltage circuit breaker actuator by a permanent magnet linear DC motor was proposed and motion characteristics were analyzed.A device with a brake to maintain the motor actuator was designed by using the finite element method to establish a motor actuator simulation model, which is based on the 40.5 kV VCB mechanical properties.The fundamental characteristics of the permanent magnet linear DC motor starter and the dynamic running process were simulated, so that the magnetic thrust, current, speed curve were gained.The analyzed result indicates that the electrical actuator can provide the sufficient speed of the gate to meet with breaking and customs requirements of circuit breakers.
