UHF antennas for Machine-to-Machine communications and Internet Of Things

Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications are increasingly important as an enabler for emerging Internet of Things (IoT) applications. In this paper, two types of UHF antennas for M2M communications are summarized. Both types of the antennas operate around 480MHz and are low profile with a size of 0.1λ. One type is based on magneto-dielectric material, and the other is based on a novel structure design. Characteristic mode analysis (CMA) is applied on the second type of antenna to evaluate the bandwidth of such a small antenna.
