A new computation scheme for sensitivity analysis

This paper studies a strategy of sensitivity analysis in structural optimization. By integrating the merit of a finite difference scheme with an analytic method for sensitivity computation, a quasi-analytic method (QAM) or sensitivity analysis is put forward. The new scheme maintains the efficiency and accuracy of the analytic method, and reduces entanglement between the sensitivity analysis and structural analysis phases in the structural optimization program to be developed. The new scheme enables one to develop structural optimization programs from existing finite element programs with little effort. Examples of trusses, 3-dimensional solids and revolutional bodies are presented.
