BUS PRIORITY AT TRAFFIC SIGNALS IN PORTLAND--VERSION 2.0: THE STREAMLINE PROJECT

Portland, Oregon, in collaboration with Tri-Met and the Oregon Department of Transportation, has implemented transit signal priority at more than 60 intersections on 2 transit nodes as part of the Streamline program. The Streamline program is a comprehensive transit priority system that utilizes transit signal priority, an automatic vehicle location system, and improved scheduling to improve passenger service. The aim of this program is to offer more efficient service on key transit corridors throughout the Portland metropolitan area. This paper provides an overview of Streamline, and describes the benefits of the transit signal priority as it has been implemented.
