The Prolex Data Base: Toponyms and Gentiles for NLP

Lexical parsing is the whole set of techniques to increase from a raw text to a sequence of tagged words ; these tags are morphological and grammatical information. Lexical parsing generally uses an electronic dictionary. But a few of them accommodate themselves to proper nouns that are a problem for lexical parsing. The French Prolex consists in creating a "tool box" with a relational electronic dictionary of proper nouns and systems of proper noun derivative identification (with the help of rules, local grammars, etc.). We present here our data base of toponyms (place names) and gentiles (inhabitant names), with their links. We justify our choice of a data base and we briefly describe the associated environment ; then we deal about the specificity of foreign terms and we present the integration of the data of France and the data of the rest of the world.
