Test generation for model based fieldbus profiles

This paper introduces a model based procedure of automatic test generation for fieldbus profile specification. Based on a tool based creation of a specification model of the fieldbus profile requirements, two test generation methods are applied. With these methods, test cases for testing the parameters and the expected behaviour can be generated. Dependent on the specified test goals, these test generation methods can achieve a high coverage of the profile specification. The practical use of these methods is exemplarily demonstrated with an existing UML profile for fieldbus devices in the PROFIBUS area. Thereby a possible tool chain from modelling to test generation, test formatting and test execution with a suitable test tool is briefly described.
