Energy Consumption in Public Buildings - A survey in Greece

The present study analyzes the impact of outdoor temperature fluctuations on electricity consumption of public buildings. Four public buildings in Greece were used as pilot sites. In the current case study, the occupants are able to monitor their real-time consumption through smart meters and adjust their behavior accordingly. The energy monitored is compared with past baseline consumption data for each user. Heating Degree Days and Cooling Degree Days are taken into consideration for the comparison with the baseline data. Energy savings are eventually calculated for each building and the impact of the occupants’ consumption monitoring is finally assessed. The energy feedback did not produce any effect on the public buildings energy savings.
