For the restoration of Taekkyeon, this study aimed at comparative analysis of hand skills among different organizations through literary review and interviews as qualitative case studies. The ultimate objective was to contribute to the restoration of the original forms of Taekkyeon’s hand skills. The study’s conclusions are as follows: First, Song Deok-gi and Shin Han-seung recorded very similar forms of hand skills. Second, the purposes of hand skills in Seogi Taekkyeon and Gyeollyeon Taekkyeon are different from each other. The Korean Taekgyeon Association classifies Seogi Taekkyeon, being a game, as an subsidiary measure to grappling and Gyeollyeon Taekkyeon as practical Taekkyeon (battle skills) intended for hitting. On the contrary, the Kyulyun Taekyun Association and the Korean Taekkyon Federation define Gyeollyeon Taekkyeon as a game where hand skills are used as subsidiary moves to foot skills, while hand skills in hitting moves are classified as old skills to be taught separately. Third, in basic training, hand skills are intended as skills required in games. Whereas the three organizations in Korea consider hand skills as subsidiary measures to grappling, Widae Taekkyeon includes hand skills as hitting moves in its basic training.
