Low profile UWB shorted dipole antenna

In this paper we present a low profile UWB dipole antenna that consists of two elliptical form plates top loaded by circular disks which are shorted to each other by two symmetrical wires. This dipole antenna has a total height of less than lambda/6 and a top loading disk diameter equal to lambda/3. The antenna shows a very wide bandwidth of 6:1 from 3.1 GHz to 18 GHz with a return loss better than 12 dB.
