A study of standard antenna method using two homogeneous horn antennas

A new concept of a standard antenna method using two homogeneous horn antennas is proposed. We also determine a standard antenna factor using a new concept of a standard antenna method, which is referred to as R-SAM. In order to verify the proposed measurement method, two homogeneous horn antennas, which are operating in the frequency range of 3.95 GHz to 5.85 GHz, are designed and fabricated. The homogeneity of two horn antennas fabricated is verified by measuring a site insertion loss (SIL) between a transmitting antenna and the fabricated antennas. All measured values show the same to within 0.08 dB. In order to verity the R-SAM, an arbitrary wideband horn antenna is calibrated with the standard antenna factor calibrated by R-SAM. And then we compare the result of antenna factor measured by three antenna method (TAM). Two results show very good agreement with a maximum deviation of 0.08 dB. Therefore, the validity of the R-SAM is verified.
