Power fluctuations in spatially dispersed wind turbine systems

Abstract We report on a second-order statistical analysis of power output time series from spatially dispersed wind turbine clusters (typical area dimension 50 × 100 km). Power fluctuations in the time scale of hours are investigated. It is shown that, for the analyzed climatic region (northwest Germany), a main effect of geographical dispersion is the reduction of large hour to hour changes in the overall power output.
