Development of GIS-MCDA

This chapter traces the roots of GIS-MCDA and focuses on recent developments in GIS-MCDA research. It describes two research traditions underlying the development of GIS-MCDA: Operations Research and Management Sciences (OR/MS) and landscape architecture/planning. The research interests of these two traditions meet at the application of their approaches to land use planning and management. This common research interest resulted, inter alia, in establishing the GIS-MCDA paradigm. Based on a survey of relevant publications, this chapter presents a taxonomy and development of GIS-MCDA research and applications.
