Finding an appropriate mold temperature control strategy for injection molding tools is a challenging task for a designer. The layout of the cooling circuit bores has a crucial effect on the tools efficiency and the product quality. Due to the lack of fast and precise evaluation methods for the thermal effect of cooling circuits, nowadays, the designer’s decisions are basically driven by experience. In this article a new and fast method for the experimental evaluation of cooling circuits is introduced. In combination with a special evolutionary algorithm it is utilized for the automatic generation of high quality cooling circuit layouts.
