Cardiac Cine-MRI/CT Registration for Interventions Planning

Patient specific multimodal models have proved their impacts on various cardiac clinical procedures. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance images (MRI) are two modalities widely used in clinical routine to describe anatomy, tissues and cardiac function of patients. Fully automatic methods have been proposed to register CT and cine-MRI short axis views (SAX), with greater results in a multi-images approach, requiring multiphase CT scans. The purpose of this paper is to propose an alternative method with no use of multiphase CT scan, that is, less radiations exposure for the patient. We propose a new method with an automatic initialisation close to the solution relying on cine-MRI movement detection. This approach has been tested on 20 patients suffering from cardiac arrhythmia and outperforms the previously published methods.
