Sound Propagation in Voigt Fluid

One‐dimensional sonic propagation in the viscoelastic Voigt fluid is studied through the partial use of the single relaxation theory. The Voigt constitutive equation is shown to be a relaxation equation, and a relaxation time for the fluid is defined. The dispersion of acoustic velocity and the attenuation coefficient, which are compared with those of the Maxwell fluid, are found in terms of the physical parameters of the Voigt fluid and the wave frequency.
