Tensorial analysis of GCSC in a very long 750 kV transmission line

AC transmission lines that arc a little longer than half wavelength has been presented in the literature for the interconnection of two powers systems situated at this distance. It presents interesting characteristics and its performance can be improved if FACTS devices are used. However, before introducing a FACTS device in this line a good modeling and analysis is necessary to observe the influence of this equipment in the system. This work presents a mathematical analysis of a half wavelength transmission line based on tensorial formulation including a FACTS device called gate controlled series capacitor (GCSC). The tensorial formulation was developed using Mathematica and the validation is done by comparing results with simulations in PSCAD/EMTDC. Also it is presented an exact modeling of the transmission line and discussions on the influence of the GCSC in the systems performance.
