A novel method of carrier suppression for UHF RFID readers

The carrier leakage is one of the major factor that limits the performance of the UHF RFID reader. Compared to conventional method which uses vector modulator, this paper presents a passive carrier suppression method achieving low noise. Through experiments, the implemented carrier suppression circuit exhibits 40dB with transmission power of 28dBm; As a result, the sensitivity of reader improved 14dB when the BER of 10-5. The proposed method is successfully applied to the design of the UHF RFID reader.
