The Classification of Iron Meteorites

A genetic classification system that attempts to group iron meteorites which form in the same parent body has been developed. This system uses a comparison of two independent parameters, which have been used to group iron meteorites in the past. One of these is the cooling rate of the parent body during the formation of the Widmanstatten pattern, and the other is the Ga-Ge trace element content.
