relation to lesional forms. I usually describe the face of the substable individual as fleshy, because of the marked development of the soft tissues, which recalls more or less the face of a child. Perhaps entering into this is a strong facial musculature, corresponding to a more vigorous functioning. By contrast, the face of the superstable individual has a bony appearance. The general constitution of the soft tissues of the face, like the entire physical habitus of the substable individual, gives us to perceive in this, in a certain sense, a retardation of bodily development which is more or less childlike in quality (cf. Conrad). This corresponds to the low degree of psychic development which substability implies.
