An efficient and economical active AC line conditioner

To improve the quality of a power system, a family of active AC line conditioners (ALCs) have been developed and built. These circuits are simple, robust and economically competitive to available systems. Voltage waveform correction is intrinsically available. The paper presents theoretical analysis of the systems confirmed by laboratory test results derived from 50 Hz as well as 400 Hz equipment. The voltage loss in 400 Hz energy transmission lines is more pronounced even for relative short cable lengths, due to the high inductive impedance at this frequency. A fast responding system is also described, primarily developed as a high quality reference voltage source for flicker measuring equipment.
