Shell model calculation in the S − D subspace

The nucleon-pair shell model truncated to the $S\ensuremath{-}D$ subspace is applied to the barium isotopes ${}^{130}{\mathrm{Ba}--}^{136}\mathrm{Ba}.$ The effects of the single-particle energy splitting on collectivities are examined. The main features of the low-lying collective states of the nuclei, especially for nuclei with a larger number of pairs, are well reproduced by a shell model Hamiltonian with three parameters.
