Elastic and Inelastic Scattering of Deuterons by 9Be in the Energy Range of 12.17 MeV to 14.43 MeV

Angular distributions for elastic scattering of deuterons by 9 Be and inelastic scattering to the 1.68 MeV state and to the 2.43 MeV state were measured at energies 12.35 MeV and 14.06 MeV. Excitation functions were measured in the energy range of 12.17 MeV to 14.43 MeV. The elastic scattering data were analyzed in terms of the optical model. The increase of the real central potential depth with the increase of the incident energy is found. The angular distribution for (d, d 2 )(2.43 MeV) together with d 0 distribution was reproduced satisfactorily by coupled-channel calculations. The quadrupole deformation parameter of β 2 =1.4 was obtained, which is close to the value derived from (e, e') and (p, p'). The angular distribution for (d, d 1 )(1.68 MeV) was qualitatively reproduced by assuming the excitation of 9 Be as 8 Be(0 + )+n(1p 3/2 )→ 8 Be(0 + )+n(2s 1/2 ).
