A Robust Generalized Sidelobe Canceller Controlled by a Priori SIR Estimate

With the aim to reduce target signal cancellation in generalized sidelobe canceller (GSC), a new robust adaptive beamformer is proposed in this paper by adopting a new method to control updating of the step-size based on signal-to-interference ratio (SIR). Simulation results with real acoustic data show that the proposed method can decrease target signal cancellation with more directional interference elimination, even in very noisy and reverberant environments. Various improvements can be achieved for different types of interferences. Especially for the speaker interference, SIR is improved by more than 3.5dB compared to the conventional methods. Moreover, when the environment gets worse, the superiority of the proposed algorithm is more obvious.
